Let's get you caught up...

A LOT has happened since our last post!  Where to begin...where to begin...

2/15, Kymberli's doctor's appt.- Followed up with the retinal specialist (Dr. Tawansy) again.  The contusion is healing well.  He also mentioned to the observing resident student, "has a partial PVD." After a quick check of WebMD, I discovered that was one of the things we were watching for but hoped wouldn't happen. What that means is a posterior vitreous detachment.  Here's the WebMD description:

"a common condition in which the vitreous gel (the gel cushion behind the lens that is attached to the retina) shrinks and separates from the retina.  Posterior vitreous detachment usually results from normal, age-related changes in the vitreous gel, although it can also result from eye injury or inflammation caused by surgery or disease... Posterior vitreous detachment usually does not cause any problems, but it can sometimes cause tears in the retina."

Of course, the part about possible retinal tearing is the scariest part of this condition.  And the other bummer is that it is a "normal" occurance as you age (most commonly seen in people over 60) but has been brought on early in Kymberli's case due to a traumatic injury.  So what do we do?  We continue to pray for healing and preservation of her eye.  We do EVERYTHING the doctor tells us-which includes continuing the eye drops as prescribed and wearing protective glasses for all activities. And we make sure to notify him immediately if she experiences any flashes of light or floaters (indicators that there are changes in the vitreous gel).  Otherwise, we go on about our life as normal.  Oh, and if you were wondering, Kymberli played in her game that night, and she kicked butt!

2/15, McNeelys in town-Go to the airport to greet Allison, Macey and Xander.  Macey really wanted Kymberli to be at the airport when she arrived in CA.  So we surprised them :)

2/17, FHS in play off game in Visalia, PA Beckers visiting-We combined to events into one this time.  Eric's brother's family was visiting from Pittsburgh this weekend and we had planned to have dinner together this evening in Clovis.  Then the soccer team qualified for another game.  So a compromise was reached.  Eric's family joined us for the game in Visalia and then we had dinner afterward :)

2/18, Kymberli's 18th birthday-What a great day!  Hard to believe she's 18!!  We had dinner planned at Buck Owens' Crystal Palace, per our country girl's request.  We had 20 friends and family to help her celebrate.  Here are some highlights from the day...

Happy Birthday from Mom & Dad

Happy Birthday from her 3 Aunties

 Happy Birthday from her friends

Beautiful cowgirl cake

2/19-2/21, Trip to Flagstaff to visit NAU-Since this university is still ranking pretty high on Kymberli's list, we decided a trip to the campus was important. She chose to participate in a Discover NAU session on 2/20 aimed at incoming freshmen.  It was a long drive, but the visit was worth it.  It helped cement its position at the top of the list.  The weather was cold (it snowed the day was arrived) but it was doable.  And the city itself was very college-friendly and quaint.  I can really see her thriving there! :)

Ready to tour the campus

2/21, Dinner at Mom's-Since the McNeelys were leaving on Wednesday, we had one last dinner at Mom's house to say goodbye.  I always dislike this day :(

Well, I think that concludes our whrilwind week. If anything could have happened in our lives, it happened that week!  Who knew one could be so busy.  We are enjoying some "down time" now! :)
