We lost another pet yesterday. Minnie, our black lab, has been suffering with arthritis for some time now. We have been keeping her comfortable with pain medicine for the last several years. She recently hurt herself chasing a cat (yes, she still wanted to play and have fun) and lost the ability to hold up her hind end. She spent the weekend in the vet hospital since we had planned to be out of town for a soccer tournament. The timing could not have been worse. The treatment they gave her did not make any improvements to her body and she went into a depression because she was not with her family. Knowing that we would have to euthanize her, we picked her up and took her home when we came back to town so we could spend a little more time with her. She was only home and on her bed for a short time when she died. Even though it's sad, I'm glad we did not have to make that choice and that she was in a familiar place. The vet hospital is so impersonal. We were able to tell her how much we loved her and what a good girl she has been for us. We will miss her terribly!

Aw, Minnie! How peaceful that she was able to go to sleep for the last time in her own bed.
I am so sorry. But glad she went with you all loving her at home.
